PROJECT ONE
Basic Color Mixing & Theory
Rotation TWO students had the same task as rotation one; they had to mix primary colors to create secondary and tertiary colors. Students also explored shade and tint and complementary colors. Additionally, just to combine geometry with our visual art, students made parabolas, which then became pyramids.
PROJECT TWO
Basic Perspective
Students were required to produce a myriorama, a single cell of a picture to create a continuous landscape. Students had to create a landscape according to specifications and connect them to their classmates.
Below is a not so great video, (recorded by myself :-/), of what the pictures look like as a continuous landscape.
PROJECT THREE
Creating a Composition
Students were allowed to create their own compositions, incorporating color and perspective lessons; and compose a story, so that the viewer could have the added pleasure of an enhanced "perspective" from the artist. Many of the students wrote phenomenal stories, (I was really impressed), and sadly I cannot share them all. However, I encourage you to have your child share their story with you as you look at their work. Below the slideshow is a sampling of selected stories.
The Chemist
By Talya
A chemist with wild grey hair stood up from his desk. He gave one last glance out of the large window and patted his dog’s head. “I won’t be gone for long,” he soothingly told the anxious beagle. The dog whined as her master locked the solid wood door. After pacing around for a bit, the dog settled on the rig of the office. “Bang, Bang, Crack!” Someone burst into the ancient mansion. The criminal ransacked the office and took off with the chemists freshly printed, most recent research. The dog continued to sleep. Later that day when the owner came home he was greeted to a terrible mess. He called the police, who soon came to investigate the crime scene. They figured out what was gone and the man was terribly upset and furious. His work was gone. Three weeks later, the criminal was found, it was the man’s son.

THE HOUSE THAT WAS PERFECT
By Josie
The birds in the sky, they fly so high,
The pool is looking ever so blue, I would like to go for a swim, how about you
The tree that sways in the breeze, lovely as can be,
The individual stones in the ground, so detailed and neat,
The red curtain that just ties the room together,
The peachy carpet, flawless without stains,
The yellow color of the house, makes it just pop out,
The emerald grass, as green as can be
The blueness of the sky, so fluffy and light,
The window so real, like it isn’t even there,
The squirrel hole in the tree, hello, is anyone there,
The books on the shelf, I want to read one so bad,
The bedroom, as clean as can be,
The blue roof, it goes so well with the rest,
The door is brown, but such a shade of brown, it’s perfect,
The bedroom wall, as violet as a flower,
The nob on the door, black as the night,
The picture, not a drop of white,
The pink of flowers, flows just right,
The the texture, just right,
The frame on the door, just plain perfect,
The house is so shiny and new, unowned by any passers who dare to stop by,
Maybe I’ll live there one day.

The City Girl
By Maya
The grass swayed as the wind peacefully blew. The city girl in the rushing train, peeking through the window, yearned for a taste of the sweet country air. She was a young New Yorker, only knew about the city. Her parents were business men and women, always traveling from town to town. She was only 11; not old enough to explore the world around her. She would always be dragged wherever her parents went. Her parents were too busy to interact with her, so her only company was her dolls Anne and Mary, and her vigorous imagination. She would dream about sweet treats, fair weather, and being a professional dancer for the Joffrey. While her parents traveled she would dream; except for this one time. As she passed this grassy field, she thought about having a break from her busy life, going from bus, to train, to car. The endless fields, the smooth breeze, the quietness, and the nature; Oh, how she wished to have more of this beautiful sight. She wished her parents would stop their work for 1 minute to witness the field, but of course they would be too busy. The city girl would always remember this moment, no matter how old she got. Whenever she would get upset, she would think about it to calm her down. She would dream, and dream, and dream to revisit her favorite memory.

The new grocery store has just opened in Johnsonville and the king who lives by the mountains is very excited. The town people are very friendly, every day the people meet and they all sing and dance for the celebration of living together. Even though the town only has eight homes, the town is still very nice. There are only three stores, not including the new grocery store. These stores are very helpful, one supplies most of the water. Another sells tools and building supplies, the last one supplies the heat and ac controls for winter and summer. Finally there is the new grocery store, you can buy almost anything there! If you need something the stores don’t have you have to go to the next town, which is over thirty miles away. Elizabeth Owens is the leader of the no home robbery committee (N.H.R.C) she lives right next to the grocery store with her three children. Elizabeth’s oldest daughter, Samantha, is cashier at the new grocery store which is pretty convenient for Elizabeth because she can walk over any time. Why someone would want to know about Elizabeth is because she keeps everyone nice so then that way no one has to move out because of violence and robberies, that is also why Elizabeth made up N.H.R.C. Now everyone in Johnsonville is happy and has most of their precious belongings with the help of Elizabeth. This is Johnsonville, the violence free, robbery free, happy town.

The Glowing Door
By Juliette
I found myself in a sort of living room/ entertainment room. The room looked dark and felt like no one has lived in here for ages. It was dusty and there were spider webs on the ceilings and in the corners of the room. The room was filled with one bookshelf, two paintings, a reading chair with a modern lamp screw to the wall. On the tile floor lay a rug that covered most of the floor. But in the middle of the room was a narrow dark door. The door was decorated with carvings on the frame. I looked to the side, light was shining from the other room. But I wasn't curious about who was there because something was behind the door I could see it. But I am still not sure why I am here or how I got here but I can still hear the tiny, far away voice saying. ¨ Look behind the door and seek for what you now ?” Ok, first of all what is that supposed to mean and honestly I am curious of what is behind that door. Well who said life is fun without taking risks. I’m going in.

THE WHOMPING WILLOW
By Abigail
The Whomping Willow
Sad and Droopy
independent, long, and sturdy
Strong on the outside
and soft on the inside
The Whomping Willow
has a beautiful home
Trees so soft like foam
grass that smells like dirt
and lily pond with lilies that smell like cotton candy
And the sky…
The beautiful, beautiful sky
and in the night so clear and cool
that there is all the stars that you can wish for
and the Whomping Willow and his beautiful home are all sound asleep

An eruption of sound explodes from downstairs. The sound of somebody knocking down a door. I Creep downstairs careful not to step on the bottoms stair because it has a rip in the carpet on the stair beneath it creeks. Just as I am about to step over the stair my foot trips over air and I collapse of the bottom of the stairs. I hear a murmur of “Someone's in the house let's go.” it is the voice of a man. The voice is deep and scratchy and I feel like I recognize it but I just hit my head so I can't be to sure. I hear the sound of glass shattering and I stand up and whip around the corner just in time to see the silhouette of a man jumping out of my 2nd floor window. I look around the room everything is destroyed. My door, just like i thought it would be, is knocked down and split into two. My grandmother's antique table is shattered at my feet. But Oh not the window, the new window I bought last week is the worst part. A hole big enough to fit a man is in the window. The new $6,000 window. The window appears to have been broken with my signed Louisville slugger baseball bat, which normally hanging on my wall to remind me of my father. He passed away when I was 8. Thinking of my father made me think of his chest. A wooden chest that was fashion rather like a pirate's treasure chest was what he had left me. It also had a note that told me not to open it until I was alone. I was glad I had done that because when I got home and I did open it I found treasures upon treasures of things that probably added up to more than $10,000. Also inside was every sketch I had ever made. Me and my father were both fond of sketching. When he was alive we used go down to the lake near our and sketch every day. Hmm that was a better time. I was not going to trade in the things that were worth money in for the $10,000. I was going to keep them to remember my father. The man who had kept my art all these years. I look around once more and that's when I noticed it my father's chest is out and empty. I walk over convinced that the light must be playing tricks on my eyes but no it's true. How could this man who had jumped out my window have known about the chest? Who was the other man with him? One million other questions go through my head like, why did I recognize the voice and why didn't I see another man jump into the window if he had been talking to someone? All of sudden my world turns black and I fall to the floor.

The Seasons of the Sisters By Anastasia
Once upon a time there was world of seasons that was split between winter and summer only one bridge-which crosses over a river- separates the two from each other. There was a myth, that, if you crossed the bridge to go into the other half you could never come back. Two girls, Summer and Hope, who had been separated at birth and where each put into a different half.
The year Summer turned 12 she learn that she had a twin sister, Hope, who now lived in winter. She decided that she had to go find her, but she had heard the myth about crossing the bridge and she didn’t want to leave her family forever, so she went to the bridge and waited there, hoping her sister would come.
Hope on the other hand didn’t know until she was 12 and a half. She wasn’t really sure if she wanted to meet her sister because she was scared she wouldn’t like her since they were in opposite sides of the world which one was in winter and the other in summer. One day she realised that she should try, so she made her journey to the bridge.
Once Hope got to the bridge she saw a girl on the opposite side of the bridge waiting for something or...someone. Summer got up,she looked across the bridge, she was thinking “Could that be my sister or am I dreaming”.
They looked at each other they just knew they were sisters. Summer tried crossing through the river thinking she could come back, she took a canoe that was on the bank. As she was crossing she fell out of the canoe and was drowning. Hope had to go and save her, but Summer was very close to the bank on the half of Summer. Hope just had to try. She started swimming and got her sister to safety. She knew that now she could never go back to winter. She left with Summer and never looked back towards Winter, her homeland.

Once upon a time there was a penguin with great big eyes. They were huge eyes with huge cute black pupils. Despite his cuteness, all the other penguins didn’t like him. They stuck their tongue out at him and called him names such as “Four Eyes” because his eyes were twice as big as normal penguin eyes. They also teased him about his sailor’s hat because none of them had a sailor’s hat on their heads. Then, one day, a scientist on an expedition realized that this penguin was special. For starters, he had a sailor’s hat on his head. Also, he had big eyes that bulged when he got mad. So the scientist put him in a cage and brought him to the zoo. Then, the penguin began to feel very lonely, seeing as he was the only penguin in the zoo. They cleared out all the other penguins so they wouldn’t disrupt his tackiness. But the penguin missed his “friends” nevertheless, so he planned a daring escape. First he slapped the zookeeper with the fish that he gave the penguin every day for food until he passed out. Then, he splashed himself with water and slipped out of the bars. He managed to get the zookeeper’s key ring and let himself out of the zoo. Luckily, the zoo was right next to a port, so he checked the boat schedule and stowed away on a boat to Antarctica. He had to find the science base which he was near to. So, he walked and he walked until he found an orange building. But no one (penguin or human) was there. He suspected that the scientists had built a new building to follow the penguins Just one problem: Where were the penguins? Suddenly, a gust of wind blew his sailor’s hat off (funny it stayed on all this time) and what did the penguin do? He chased after it, of course. Surprisingly (not) , the penguin found all the other penguins by following his sailor’s hat.

Snowbowl
By George
After watching the Superbowl, at around 9:00 PM., Jorge’s home phone started ringing. He rushed over to pick up, since it was quite a cold winter and a few days of school had been canceled because of this. When he put it up to his ear, an automated voice started playing, “Tomorrow school will be canceled due to extreme cold in all District 56 schools. I repeat, school will be canceled for all District 56 schools. Please do not bring your children to school.” Jorge slammed the phone down and cheered. “No school tomorrow!” He tucked himself into his bed but had trouble falling asleep because of his excitement. When he woke up the next morning he quickly pulled on appropriate clothes for playing in the snow and walked outside. When he got outside, other kids were also there such as Percy and Ryan. They built a snowman and a snow fort. Afterwards, they decided to have a snowball fight which was very fun since six kids were out in the park. After the action was over, they made snow angels. Once Jorge was finally tired of playing outside, he went back to his house. It took him a while to pull of his heavy boots and his snow pants, which were secured by straps. Once he walked upstairs, he was greeted by hot cocoa and a fresh batch of warm cookies. After that, he walked upstairs to read his favorite book. For the rest of the day, he just relaxed and did whatever he wanted. “Wow,” he thought, “This is much better than a day of school.”

Milo’s father was out of town one day when his evil stepmother deserted him on a highway in the middle of the desert with nothing but a backpack full of clothes, and his phone. Milo was desperate. After wandering through the desert, he found a small mouse, which led him to the nearest city. Milo desperately searched for unprotected wifi so that he could use it to call his stepmother. His hopes were not high. He didn’t want to call her to tell her about how evil she was, but just to tell her to leave, because a storm was brewing near his stepmother, a storm that would wipe out many.

In the woods

1, 2, 3, 4. 4 intersections all come to one path. The path is red. I have no choice but to go
down the red path. Afraid, I start walking down the red path not knowing what I will face ahead.
I am about 1\4 of the way down the path and I start realizing all the Trees and Colors around
me. I just then realized that I am in the middle of a forest and I have absolutely no idea where I
am. I come to a bridge where an orange path intersects with the red path. I decide to continue
on the red path because I have no idea where the other path goes. The red path takes me
down the forest and trees are passing me, 15 by 15. Passing in straight line rows, 15 by 15. I
have been in the unknown woods for about 2 hours, still having no idea where I am. I get a
tingle in my neck telling me something is not okay. I feel like I am

Princess Pipper

Princess Pipper woke up to find a note on her night table. She walked across her plush pink carpet. Everything in her room was nice. She was a princess after all. Her Periwinkle walls were painted perfectly. even though she was a princess she was pretty tough. she still had a nice palace but she was not bratty.
She opened the silver doorknob and went into the brightly lit bathroom. The bathroom had a whirlpool sink. The floor was a mosaic of a bird. She quickly got dressed and went into the hallway. The heals of her shoes clicked on the the polished wooden under her feet. She skipped down the grand marble staircase at the front of the palace and then went into the dinning room with a crystal hanging lamp hanging over the polished stone table set with silver dishes. After breakfast she went to her favorite place. She went to the tree in the middle of the forest about a half miles walk away. She climbed the branches and saw something horrible. A golden dragon was in the sky. This place was weird. there was magical creatures in the forest like elves and nymphs but rarely dragons. She had never seen a golden dragon. She climbed up to the top and touched the egg, it began to glow. She didn't know what it was...The future!
She walked out of the green forest and on to the grassy fields that grew plants. Finally she entered the village of Ercicane, where the witch lived. When she entered the grass dark hut of the witch I asked her about the dragon's egg. She told me that the dragons egg is the most dangerous dragon on the planet. She said that I had the magic power to destroy it. Exactly at mid day tomorrow I would go and get the egg and crush it.
The next day she slipped out of the palace before anyone noticed. She was nervous as she walked up to the tree. Meanwhile, the dragon was sleeping. She crept up the tree and grabbed the egg. She sprinted from the forest before the dragon woke up. She crushed the egg and the world was saved.
