PROJECT ONE
SCULPTURAL INSTALLATION
Rotation three students hit the floor running after viewing the presentation for the collaborative sculpture project. They were randomly assigned to groups of four - five and encouraged to work together to create a sculptural installation. They had to be mindful of how viewers might interact within the space of the sculpture as well as keep in mind a rationale. Below are "process" videos. The process is just as important as the product since one of the goals is collaboration.
...And here students have begun to work in their groups...
...More coming...The project is due Feb. 10... Students needed a bit more time... But here are updates
PROJECT TWO
MAZES 3-D
Students were required to create a 3D environment, in an effort to learn about perspective, and navigate a bit of a back story as well.

I awoke to an empty hostel room. My Dad wasn’t in his bed, which was weird. He told me we would start off the day with a cafe breakfast, then we would go sight seeing. I was so excited when he told me we would be going to Rome, and now he wasn’t even here. My Dad surprised me with this trip for my birthday, three months ago. Now it was the summer and we had just gotten in last night. The first day and he couldn’t even wait for me to get up. I reached to my nightstand and grabbed my phone. I called and it went to automatic voicemail. Sometimes my Dad was so unpredictable. I decided to get back at him, revenge is my specialty. I got out of bed and went over to the desk. I looked down at the room service menu and saw a notepad next to it. There was a scribbled sentence across the top. It read: Morning Claire. I know you must be mad at me for running out, but I hope you’ll forgive me. Anyways I just ran out for some pizza. I’d love for you to join me. Love, Dad.
My stomach grumbled, even thought it was nine in the morning I could always go for some pizza. I got dressed and was about to head out the door, when I remembered. He never told me where to meet him. There were hundreds of pizzerias in a mile radius. My Dad was so forgetful sometimes. I sat back on the bed and tried calling him again. No answer. I couldn’t believe him. I was about to call down to the front desk for room service when I looked at the note. Pizza was spelled pisa. Like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. My Dad’s handwriting was always messy, the words always looked like something else. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs.
The streets were flooded with people, tourists, vendors and others crowded the narrow street of the hostel. I didn’t know which way the tower was and I had already started walking. I went up to a cart full of fruit. There was young man behind it counting money.
“Pardon sir, which way is the Leaning Tower of Pisa?” I asked kindly.
He sighed and rudely pointed in the direction I was already going. “Two blocks down and one block left.” he said coldly.
“Thanks...I mean grazi.” I started walking away, yet not far away to hear him say, “Stupid tourists.”
I figured out that guy didn’t really enjoy tourists. It sounded like more people asked where the Leaning Tower of Pisa more than about his fruit. I remembered I was hungry and ran back. I handed him two euros and grabbed an apple. “Grazie.” he smiled and gladly took the money.
“No problem miss.” I smiled and began walking. It took a few minutes to get there. There were so many hidden alleys and street in Italy.
Even from a block away I could see the top of the tower of the small buildings. I got to the tiny town square where the tower was. It stood proudly, gleaming against the light. Hundreds of tourists lined the bottom snapping photos. I looked around for my Dad, yet he was nowhere in sight. I sighed and turned around.
I didn’t know where my Dad was, I didn’t know where to go and I was all alone. On top of that I was now super hungry, and the apple didn’t seem appetizing. I was about to head back to the hostel when a small pizza stand caught my attention. Then it hit me. In the note my Dad mentioned running for pizza. That is what brought me to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I went over to the cart and asked if a man had left a note here. The vendor smiled and handed me a piece of pizza. I was confused, maybe she didn’t understand English very well. I was about to ask again when she handed me a small note. I smiled and thanked her and moved to a small bench.
With pizza in one hand and the note in the other I began eating a reading. The note read: Hey Claire, glad you found your way. As a child you loved to run around and play games right after you ate a snack. I’ll be waiting.
My Dad had, in that moment, way over estimated my ability to figure this out. By telling of how I was as a child, it didn’t help me out. At all. I had finished my pizza and I still didn’t know what to do. Did my Dad want me to play a game, but where?
Then I understood. There was one place where you could play games in Rome. I had dreamt about seeing it. I threw away my pizza and headed to a small street.
I arrived and walked around. There were hundreds, maybe thousands all looking around. I knew the Coliseum was something everyone wanted to see, but I didn’t think it would be this crowded. I ran through, looking over people to look for my Dad.
Then I spotted him. He was standing in the middle of the crazy crowd. I ran to him and hugged him.
“I see you found your way here.” he said as he I hugged him.
“You knew I would.” I replied and let go of him. He was holding something behind his back. “What ya got there?”
“Just a little birthday food.” He smiled and revealed two cones of chocolate gelato.
I beamed, happy to be here with him and happy he brought gelato. “Let’s go, there is so much to do.” he said. I nodded and we walked down the sidewalk, arm in arm, gazing at the beautiful city of Rome.

The Mysterious Hallway
Mike and Sully are tired after a long day at work at Monsters Inc. They walk into the locker room and get ready to leave Monsters Inc. As they walk down to the parking lot, the loud speaker comes on.
“Everyone watch out! There is a child on the loose! A child on the loose!” It booms. Mike and Sully turn around.
“Ahhh!” they scream as they see a small little boy right behind them.
“Sully, we’ve done this before. All we have to do is get the kid back to his door and it will be fine,” Mike exclaims.
“I know, but to do that we have to walk through the ‘Mysterious Hallway’,” Sully responded.
“Why do we have to do that?” Asked Mike.
“Because all used doors go through the “Mysterious Hallway” and this kid probably got out of a used door!” Screamed Sully with a frightened tone.
“Good point. I guess we are just going to have to go for it,” Mike proclaimed. Sully picks up the kid and they both start running to the entrance of the “Mysterious Hallway.”
“Well here we are,” says Sully while shaking. Mike opens the door and everyone walks in. There is a creepy sound coming from the ceiling

Lost In The Stairs
Connor was sitting in his room looking at the snow fall and pile up on the sidewalk, Connor wanted to go on an adventure. Someone had told him about never ending stairs, stairs that take you to random places. He wanted to find the stairs so badly, so he packed a backpack full of goods, brought an extra sweater in case the weather was colder, he also brought his camera so once he developed the photos he could show everyone, he took some crackers and an apple if he got hungry. Connor left a note on the table for his mom.
As soon as Connor got outside he got a runny nose, and he couldn't feel his fingertips. He put his hands in his pockets. Connor thought he knew of a place where these stairs would be. He went to an old abandoned factory, and that's where his adventure began.
Connor noticed it was colder inside the building them it was outside. There were stairs going all over the place, there seemed to only be a couple people. He started walking up stairs and before he knew it he was walking upside down. He was confused, he was wondering how he had gotten there, and he felt the same way as he did when he was walking up the stairs but instead he was upside down.
Connor suddenly become worried about his mom, he only left a note for her and he knew she would be freaking out. He snapped some photos of the stairs and he left. He put his extra sweater on that was in his backpack, he took out his apple and crunched into it. As soon as he got home, his mother had made dinner and ran to the door and hugged Connor. She wasn't mad she was just he was home. Connor went to his room and plopped down on his bed, he thought about the stairs and he had a huge smile on his face.

PROJECT THREE
Perspective
Students had to make a 2D rendering of a specific section of their mazes... Which completes the full circle/sphere of their lessons in perspective - understanding fore, middle and background, (they had to show depth).
