PROJECT ONE
Collaboration
A Sculptural Installation
Supervised Freedom! This is the offering for the last rotation of seventh graders for 2015-16 school year. My past three rotations have indeed transformed me into a teacher who has become more loose with the reigns of control and have seen students grow as a result; in confidence as they test out ideas, skills and medium exploration.
The first project was not just a collaboration between students in the class, but also with Ms. Shaw's orchestra, as we were invited to interpret the music "Fire Dance" arranged by Soon Hee Newbold. The interpretations are amazing. Watching the few videos of the process will offer a sense of the excitement that came about the process of creation for the installations. Perhaps we'll see you at the concert as they are unveiled during the song on May 5 at 7:00 at Nichols Auditorium.

PROJECT TWO
Perspective
Students were challenged with the task of building a maze. They had to create a theme and then plan the maze using whatever materials were best suited for their idea. Here are ALL of the stories/themes and pictures of mazes.
The Lonely Raindrop Lizzie B.
It was the middle of the day, and it had just stopped raining. Although the ground was wet, the sky was a bright blue. On one very special cloud, there were two raindrops left. One who went by the name of Drippy, Drippy was in the middle if the cloud, where it was nice and happy. Some may say Drippy was livin’ the life. The other raindrops name was Droppy. Droppy was on the edge of his cloud, scared for his life, he was especially lonely. But the only way to get to the center of the cloud was to go through the great maze of the cloud. First Droppy had to find the entrance of the maze without falling off the cloud. Droppy hung onto the white, and fluffy wall, and he side shuffled down, until he finally found an opening in the maze. He walked into the maze, now letting go of the wall. As he walked in he then realized there were two different ways to go, he decided to go right. There were many choices Droppy had to make, which way to go? Which way should I go? But with many wrong turns, and having to go back, Droppy finally got to the middle of the maze. But wait… Drippy was not there...

The Valley of Illusions Maze
By Olive C.
In a long time from now, our society has changed immensely. All that is left is a tiny island called The Valley. This island is known for their mystical illusions. There is a long maze right in the center of the island that is famous for it’s impossibility to finish. No one has ever finished it, however there is definitely a way. There is a kind king and queen who rule The Valley, and it is a peaceful place. They have a daughter, named Zara, who loves to explore The Valley and all the illusions it has to offer, especially the maze. One day Zara came across a beautiful witch. Not an evil one, but a one dressed in a gorgeous white dress. “Hello, Zara,” she said in a calming voice. “Who are you?” Zara asked, slightly afraid. “I am Locasta, the good sorceress,” she said, looking down at Zara. “You are going to experience things soon that you might never expect. I needed to warn you, for the future of The Valley. I need to give you things that will help you through the times of hardship that are yet to come,” Locasta explained. “First, a pocket knife.” The witch handed Zara the sharp blade. “Next, an old boot.” An old combat boot was handed into Zara’s hands. “A cloak.” A maroon cloak was draped over her shoulder. “And lastly, a magical potion.” Locasta pulled out a bubbling purple liquid. Zara was taken aback, for she had never seen something as magical in her life. “Please use these items as wisely as you can,” Locasta said. “For you may only use each item once. I believe in you Zara.” and just like that, she was gone. Zara looked around, looked at these mysterious items, and placed them in her knapsack. Although Zara believed the witch, she seemed skeptical. Weeks passed and nothing dangerous happened to Zara. However, Zara kept her knapsack containing the objects by her bedside, just in case. As soon as the thought of danger was going to be flushed out of Zara’s mind, Locasta’s warnings became necessary. One day, as Zara was wandering, some snipers captured her and took her to a dark forest. A bag was draped over her head as she kicked and screamed. “Help!” she called out. “Help!” It was a long journey before she was thrown into a cold and dark dungeon. The bag was retrieved from her head. “What are you going to do with me? What? What do you want?” Zara yelled. A masked figure came into view. “Well, your majesty,” another masked figure laughed. “I have already gotten exactly what I wanted. You.” Zara was surprised. What did he need with her? All she expected was her gold collection, or any sort of money. More fear began to grow on Zara. “What do you need with me?” Zara asked. “Now that I have captured you,” the figure began to explain, “I will hold you hostage until the king gives his throne, and the monarchy, to me! He could never choose the kingdom over his sweet, precious, daughter now could he?” The man smirked. Zara struggled, trying to get free from the ropes that bonded her. She had to escape. For the future of The Valley. Night fell, and the masked figures went to sleep, but Zara lied awake, thinking of a plan. Then, all of the sudden, she remembered the items in the knapsack. The pocket knife! That could bust these ropes so she would be free! Her hands fumbled until she got the perfect angle so they could reach inside. She pulled out the blade and cut her ropes. Once she had cut enough around her body, she was able to break free of the bonds. Once she stood, the pocket knife disappeared from her hands. Right, Zara thought, you can only use each item once. She escaped through the doors, quiet as a mouse. Once she was out of the castle, and saw the night lie ahead of her, her stomach dropped. The maze was connecting this dungeon and the kingdom. Great, she thought. She looked up to find a lookout, searching over the maze. Now she had no clue how to get through the maze without being seen. The cloak! She reached into her bag and pulled out the dark cloak. “Hopefully the guard will think I’m another hooded figure,” Zara whispered. She wrapped the cloak around her body, but as soon as it was fully on, she could no longer see herself. “An invisibility cloak!” she said a bit too loud. She looked up at the guard in fear. She saw him look around shrug, and go back to searching. Zara let out a sigh, and took her first step in the maze. This part she already knew, so she strided through the maze with no hesitation. But after awhile, she got to the part that always stumped her. There were two choices, right or left. One could lead her to her home, and the other could lead her to her death. She sat down in frustration. She searched through the knapsack to see if anything could help her, and she found the old combat boot. “Ugh!” she yelled. “What am I to do with this stupid boot?” Zara threw it at the bush, and a small piece of paper fluttered out. Zara approached it with curiosity and picked it up, On the paper, there was one letter. L. “L… L means left!” Zara grabbed the boot and the knapsack, but as soon as she turned left, the boot and the note disappeared. Zara nodded and made her way throughout the maze. Finally, she reached the gate! She yelped with joy! She had escaped. She ran to the gate and realized it was completely locked. Zara looked down into the knapsack and realized there was only one item left. The potion. She opened the cap, and poured it onto the lock, at it disintegrated, along with the potion itself. She ran through the gate, looked up, and found Locasta. Nodding at her, for saving The Valley.

The Crime Scene
By Chanelle E.
There was a party and Chanelle ( the girlfriend ) and Edward ( the boyfriend ). They went to a party however, Edward found out that Chanelle was cheating. He grabbed a knife and instantly knifed her right in the chest and instantly she died.
Edward hide her in a maze far, far away, where only he knew and he had a map. He placed her in the middle and instantly hurried out.
Twenty-four hours later authorities found she was missing and hurried out for questioning. They held 3 people for questioning, her boyfriend Edward , her Mom Infinity and her best friend Destiny. They first questioned her mom and her mom told them “ I am not sure what has happened she was out for the night at a party with Edward her boyfriend”. Somehow, Edward became prime suspect number one, because instantly knew that Edward had something to do with the death. They took him into to the station where he emptied his pockets. They found a map of the maze in his pocket and asked, “What it was for?” As they dug deeper into his pocket they found a knife. Finally they released everyone and followed the map to the address written on the back, there they found Chanelle’s body laying and Edward was charged with second degree murder.

They take off early in the morning, kids chaotic, adults stressed, and car loaded up. They slowly pull out of the driveway, crunched for time, they speed onto the interstate. Endlessly long roads meet them, as they embark on a long, tiresome journey. Lia, the youngest, only 4 screams ‘ARE WE THERE YET?’ hourly into the eardrums of her loyal parents. With children whining for food, they stop at at a fast food restaurant, and small hands devour the deep fried food. They soon arrive in the busy town of their destination. Cars roam the streets and pedestrians scamper around. Lia’s ice cream stained lips, plead to stop at a rest stop. Jim, the father inevitably gives in, and pulls into a drab, dark gas station. Given the opportunity to load up on gas, Jim seizes the day and loads his car with thick gas. Leo, 8, runs out of the gas station holding a severely packaged and processed bag of chips, but if that’s what it takes to get him to be quiet, Jim and Melissa would happily do it. As they get driving again, the Hobson's are greeted with long, twisting brick streets, crowded with alleys and one way streets. As a confident driver, Melissa takes a lucky guess, and drives off down a dark road, not letting on her doubt about where she is going. Lia and Leo slowly fall asleep, their light breaths synchronized, and junk food strewn across the back seat. When the road leads the family to a small town named ‘Somerville’, Melissa finally admits defeat. She tells Jim she’s lost and they drive up to friendly strangers. They gladly point to a far away building, the arch pokes out among the houses, and stars are beginning to appear, illuminating the sky. With a bump in the road, the kids are abruptly awakened from their deep slumber. “Are we there yet?” Leo moans.
In sync, the parents sigh, “No”. Melissa drives into a dark alley, and soon the dark bricks lead into a large wall.
“Dead end” Jim concludes, stating the obvious. Bright lights in the distance catch Jim’s eye. Melissa steers the wheel, and the lights grow closer. They are met with a bright sign and giant letters. It reads ‘Crazy Town’. With an emphatic shout, Melissa pulls up to the massive castle. A satisfied look is plastered on the parent’s faces as Lia asks once and for all:

We pull up to the visitors center with 20 minutes until our time. We file out of our car my parents go to the information desk. I see the little kids boats and toys that are probably really overpriced just because they are from the “famous” river maze. I slowly browse through all of the items and get to the end as my parents call my brother and I over. “So you two are going with your dad but I’m going to stay and take pictures. We get into the boat and are suddenly pushed forward as the water gets faster. “AHHHHHHH” I scream as we go over the first waterfall. We start to accelerate through the maze. I have never been in a river maze before but my older brother and dad have before and they are laughing as I scream with every turn. I slowly get used the the sharp turns and start to laugh and direct with them. I think I see the end, “oh wait there is a flag near the exit that is one of the fake exits.” I tell my dad as he starts to turn us toward the fake exit, but I scream at him right before it is too late. We start toward the twist, but my brother turns us away. Luckily this ends up working, I see the end and start to scream. “We made it dad,” and I can see mom taking pictures and she starts to talk about our time and close calls. “Who wants to go again?” she asks. “Hah no that first waterfall was too much for me, have fun on your own.” I reply with laughter as she gets in line to buy more tickets.

Forest Maze
By Ilana
On one dark night Princess Stella had been sitting in her room inside her castle looking through her closet. When all of a sudden she saw a shadow, but she didn’t know what that peculiar shadow was. As the princess moved the shadow moved following her. There was an eerie feeling in the room when all of a sudden the princess turned around to discover an evil witch. The princess froze from fear not knowing what to do but she knew she had to get out of the castle and away from the witch. Princess Stella decided to just get out of the castle and as far away from the witch as possible but it was dark outside and the princess didn’t know where she was going. The witch chased the princess because she just wanted to become the new princess. So the princess kept running until she got into a forest. She knew she was in a forest because she saw trees, but where was she to go next she thought. Well she didn’t know which way was the way out of the forest. She tried walking through one path but stumbles across a poisonous apple so she didn’t think that was the way out. Then she stumbled into a tree knowing she couldn’t pass through trees. Yet again the princess took the wrong path and stumbled into a mirror. In the mirror she could see a reflection of herself and her beauty but that didn’t help her get out of the forest, she just gained more confidence in herself and that she will be able to get out. She started running again and for a while she was able to go through that path but saw a crystal ball. Inside the ball she saw the future, the evil witch sitting on the throne as the next princess instead of Princess Stella. She knew there had to be one path that would get her out of the forest and finally she found a path where nothing was in her way so she could easily run through. The princess was finally out and had to get back so that the future she saw in the crystal ball would never occur and Stella would stay the princess.

The Story of The Lost Teddy Bear
By Lena 6
Lily was having the most wonderful dream. She was hovering over her bed, then deciding that this was quite dull, she simply flew out the window. It was the most enjoyable sensation, the wind lightly fluttering her hair back, feeling absolutely weightless. Lily nuzzled the teddy bear in her arms, happy that he was sharing this amazing dream with her. As Lily flew over her house, Lily drops her teddy bear! Lily wakes with a start, feeling for her teddy bear, but he wasn't there! Lily turns on the lights, searching under her bed, through her drawers, but her teddy bear was nowhere to be found! She slowly turns around and stares at her room, a maze of glitter, puffiness, and overall, messiness. Lily knew that to find her teddy bear she would have to go through the maze of her room. Lily tentatively stepped closer to the maze, then deciding that it was safe to go through, she bravely walked into the entrance. As she walked around Lily noticed three very important details. The first was that the walls of her room, or the maze (whichever way you think of it) were all different colors. Not even one color was the same shade. The second was that strange growths, that almost looked like puffballs, simply sprouted out of the wall like furry round fungus. The third was that, attached to the walls or just laying on the floor, were beautiful jewels, that glittered invitingly at her. All of these amazing things were hypnotizingly wonderful, so much so that Lily didn’t really want to find her teddy bear. LIly snapped out of it and started blindly sprinting throughout the maze, left and right, dead ends and passageways until Lily finally came to a glowing passageway. In the middle of the passageway there was her teddy bear, as plush and comforting as she remembered. Cuddling her teddy bear Lily promptly fell asleep.

Once upon a time there was a baby unicorn. Every baby unicorn had to do a mission in order to get magic to actually use their horn. The mission was to go through a maze and at the end eat the magical cake. There was also an evil snake who was trying to get the cake before the baby unicorn and eat it. The baby unicorn was just walking in the feather maze and saw the snake, It quickly ran to it and thought it was friendly. The snake knew that if he pretend to be the unicorn friend then it would be easier for them to find the cake and then the snake will rush in and take it so he thought quickly and said “ why hello… let's be friends I could help you find the magical cake.” The unicorn was over filled with joy and nodded her head as a sign of yes or ok. The unicorn was going through the maze and saw the top of the cake, he ran and ran until he got to the cake with the snake dragging himself and sticking his tongue out until he caught up with the unicorn. He then pushed the baby unicorn out of the way and ran to the unicorn trying to push it away. The unicorn ran to the cake and took a big bite and a big purple swirl came around him and brought him up to the sky ! then it went in him and his horn glowed. The snake saw this and was now scared of the unicorn , it tried running away but the unicorn used its magic and threw him far far away.

You all know the story of Alice in Wonderland. But this story is about how she gets back home from when she falls down the rabbit hole. It all starts when she falls down the rabbit hole. She goes through the door to the Wonderland! Along the way going through the Wonderland she hits a couple of dead ends along the way and she doesn’t know if she will ever get out! Eventually she meets a cat and the cat calls himself the cheshire cat. He points to her the way to go and she eventually gets out of that part. After that she hits more dead ends. She meets someone at a tea party and he is so crazy she calls him the Mad Hatter. He talks to her about the Red Queen, and how bad she rules over the land. Alice decides that she wants to defeat the Queen and asks the Mad Hatter to take her there. At first he is a little hesitant, but then she says she will have a tea party with him and then he agrees. So the mad hatter leads her out of that section and they go to the next one. This section is a little bit curvy. They eventually reach a winding path that ends. The curling path was a caterpillar! The caterpillar was smoking a pipe. Alice and the Mad Hatter asked if they could get some directions to get out of this section. He said no. But then we told him that we were going to destroy the Red Queen… and then he got excited and then he asked them to get his little caterpillar daughter back and they said yes. Then the whole section collapsed and he pointed to them the other section. While they were walking through the final section they stumbled across a gigantic Red Castle! The Queen was outside playing cro-cae. So then they attacked her and said “ Off with her head!” And then Alice went back home.

Once upon a time, there was a man. His name was Jeffrey Smith.
“You can call me Jeff,” he used to say.
However, that was before IT happened. What is IT? Well IT was the day he was put in prison for stealing the prize possession of the kingdom. The Magical Gem of Exuuibi Kingdom. After he was put in prison, he found that he was Jeffrey no longer, but now Tough Joe. Tough Joe didn’t enjoy flowers, and sunshine. Tough Joe enjoyed weeds, and darkness. “Was it Tough Joe who stole the Gem?” People began to wonder.
“How can someone possibly have more than one person inside of them?” Children thought.
The next day, Tough Joe was sitting inside his prison cell. Staring up at the wall. Wondering if he could ever get out of the prison. Wondering if Jeffrey would ever come out of this dark cell. Finally, he had an idea. “An escape!” He thought, “It’s perfect!” Tough Joe planned and planned and planned until he decided upon the route that he would take to get out of the Exuubi prison and to the Exuubi Kingdom. At 12:00, he ran outside to begin his adventure. He jumped up one platform. Up the next and the next. But the platform threw him off. Tough Joe fell all the way to the first platform to start ALL over again. After a long time of trying, Tough Joe got up to a high platform. He was relieved… however, then he felt a light on him. A blinding one.“Who’s there?” Two lookouts screamed.Tough Joe ran and hid underneath the first pillar. After a long time of searching, the lookouts gave up and went back to their stations. Finally, Tough Joe found the way out. Right. Right. Left. Left. Right. Right. BING BING BING! The gate opened with a glorious light. Tough Joe looked over the top of the dungeon and saw that there was one more thing he had to do… Cross a bridge. However, not just any bridge…. A shaky, braky, old bridge. Tough Joe climbed down the side of the dungeon to get onto the bridge. Step one, creak. Step two, shake. Step three, “ahhhhhh” Joe screamed! Joe was hanging over the side of the bridge holding onto only the poles, hanging over the water! Joe yanked himself up and threw his leg over the side of the bridge and continued on walking. Soon, Tough Joe reached the kingdom, only to find the Queen standing right there reading her “Queen’s Rule Book”. “Um… excuse me…. Queen….?” Joe stammered.“Yes? Oh no! Scoundrel! Ahhh! Guards! Guards!” The Queen screeched.
“No, my Queen, I have come here for one thing and one thing only…. To express my sorrows. I apologize greatly for what I have done in the past and I hope that you can forgive me.” Joe said.“GUARDS!” The Queen yelled at the top of her lungs.“Well, I tried.” Joe thought. Joe leaped onto the trees and continued on with his adventures.
