PROJECT ONE - SCULPTURE
Installations
Initially, students seemed to be timid with the freedom given to take risks. First, they have to trust one another, then find/create meaning from foreign materials that most have never worked with, artistically speaking; and create an installation piece considering the goal of having an impact upon their peers. Indeed a process, so I've begun to record what happens. As I acquire four cameras with tripods, students will take over this job.
I apologize for the first video; my camera is not the best, of course it may be the photographer, :0)
First a gallery of pictures and a promise of more to come - the process should be enlightening for all.

....More steps along the way...
...Here's a quick sampling of students reacting to one of the installations...
Critique Comments from the Students
What was the best part of the assignment?
" ...seeing the process go... from beginning to end...getting to work as a team"
"Drawing the inside of my castle"
"Seeing our project finished"
"Spray painting... and making designs on it"
"I love painting. Our designs looked awesome..."
"Seeing the how the plates started to form the sphere"
What do you think we could have done as a team to make the project go smoother?
"Writing and drawing all of the quotes and drawings [and everyone] helping with the actual construction of the spheres"
"We could have goofed around less"
"We could each...share ideas more... maybe pick an idea and stay with the idea"
If you had more time what would you have liked to do differently?
"...make more spheres and expand to other floors"
"...build hands..."
"We could have worked at the same time, so no one was sitting around"
"Added more details, worked more together, and develop our project more"
"...add other decorations"
"...made it bigger and spent more time"
What do you think people will see in/from your sculpture?
"...they should see hope and feel inspired"
"Different ages still together...in history still affect us today"
"...Two things coming together"
"...Different sizes of people coming together as one"
"I think people [will] see unity and two things coming together to make one"
"If people are having a bad day they can read a quote [that can] help them get through the day"

PROJECT TWO
Three Dimensional -Mazes
Students were given the challenge of constructing a maze for the second project then continuing with the theme creating a two dimensional representation of a specific area of their maze for project three. What follows is a sampling of the 3D mazes.
PROJECT THREE
Perspective II
Students had to take what they created three dimensionally and turn it into a TWO dimensional drawing. A sampling of stories for these creations are below.
The 5th Maze Program
By Nate
There was once a boy named Jason who was 12 years old. He is a good problem solver which will help him on the adventure he is about to begin. Jason and his family decided to go to a new restaurant. They got into their Prius to go to the restaurant and Jason was already thinking on not using the kids menu anymore but he decided to use it one more time. They entered the restaurant and it was like a ghost town. No one was there but a waiter waiting at the front desk. They asked for a table and Jason asked for a kids menu. When Jason and his family sat down at the table and Jason open the kids menu he had teleported to a strange place where there was no sun but Lava, and that was the only place that had light. Jason saw a sign and it said the only way to get out was to go through the maze. There was a map for Jason to take and he followed the map. Jason reached the end of the maze and there was another sign saying that this was just the beginning and there were four more mazes and there were other kids like him. Jason had no choice but to follow the maze. He had been placed in the 5th maze program, this was just the beginning.

The Maze Story By Logan
Once upon a time, there was a man who worked for Pizza Hut named Zippy Jordan. He got an order from the richest man in the world: Logan Talmage. Logan was known for his love of pizza. Logan ordered an extra-extra-extra-large pizza with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham, olives, ground beef, mushrooms, turkey, grilled chicken, anchovies, pineapple, onions, basil, jalapenos, artichoke, canadian bacon, meatballs, salami, steak, seasoning and oils, and 5 different cheeses. Pizza Hut has a policy that says if the pizza is not delivered in 30 minutes or less, then your pizza is free. Logan said if the pizza is delivered on time, Logan will donate $5,000,000 to Pizza Hut. The store chose the fastest person, Zippy Jordan, to deliver the pizza. Zippy had run track in high school and was an amazing driver. Zippy drove to Logan’s house as fast as he could. When he got to Logan’s house, he saw large bushes surrounding the garden. He went around the bushes until he saw a sign that said entrance. He went in and realized that the garden had been turned into a maze. There was a statue of a guy holding a pizza, and there were rows of flowers covering the floor. There were hedges as walls that were too tall to see over. Zippy had 5 minutes to get through the maze. Pizza Hut promised Zippy that if he made it on time, they would give him 1 million of the 5 million dollars. Will he make it on time?

THE HALLOWEEN MAZE By Abby
Once there was a little boy named Nico. He went out to trick-or-treat with his friends, and they decided to try out the halloween maze in town. Nico eventually was separated from his friends, and lost his candy basket in the center of the maze. Nico did not realize this until he went out to start trick-or-treating again. He hurried back to the maze, and tried to remember where he went. He suddenly came across a black cat in the maze who asked to help Nico. Of course, Nico said yes and he followed the cat. He went through many complicated passages, and by that time he was starting to get very tired. Unfortunately, the cat was tricking him, and led him out of the maze. Now, Nico was very lost. He needed to walk all the way around to the other side of the maze and start all over again. Nico thought he should give up because someone may have already stolen all of his candy. He decided that he should at least give it a try, and start doing the maze again. Nico walked over to the entrance, and sighed. He was very tired and did not want to go back in. He took a dozen steps, and immediately regretted his decision. He started to recall what he did the first time, and started to get more, and more lost. Then, he came across the black cat again. “You won’t fool me this time!” Nico said to the cat.
“Just follow me,” replied the cat, “I can show you a shortcut.”
“Fine. This is your last chance,” Nico decided to trust the cat once more. He followed the cat through an underground tunnel where he tripped over jagged rocks and stones. The walls were filled with worms and beetles. Nico started to get scared and was worried the cat was tricking him again. They went up a long staircase, and the cat disappeared.
Nico thought he would never make it to the center of the maze. Then, he saw a faint outline of the word END in the distance. He followed a path that seemed to lead over there. That was where he probably lost his candy basket. He eventually got over there and his candy basket was over there. Nico was happy to have found it, but it was very late at night by that point. He found his way home and ate all of his candy before going to bed.

Khione's Maze by Peppy
Khione, goddess of snow, hated where she lived. She had gone into the Kera Desert, (located at one of the ends of the Earth), to look for rare powers that were found only there. She knew that it would be a hard journey, but it was worth it, for the powers were extremely magnificent. What she forgot, was that in hot temperatures she became weak, and her already existing powers began to fade. Now she had no powers and was stuck in the middle of a desert. Fun. Eventually she built herself a hut of sand, and scoured the land everyday for powers, (who were, according to legend, inside a fist-size gemstone), cactuses (for water), and edible plants. One day, while searching for those things, she started daydreaming. What she wanted, instead of living in this miserable place, was to live in an ice castle, where her powers would be as strong as ever. Or even better, she thought, a whole ice island for herself, where she could be close to the ocean. While she was daydreaming, she forgot to pay attention and stumbled on a rock, but wait, why was the rock shining? She had a closer look at it and saw that it was not a rock, but the brightest ruby she had ever seen. “This is it!” she thought, this was what she had been looking for, for more than a decade. Khione took the ruby back to her hut, where she found an opening across its length. She dug her nails into it and pulled it open. She was greeted by pleasant multicolored lights as new powers seeped into her. Khione felt so well, better than she ever felt before. She flicked her hand and three beautiful rooms were added to her hut. She turned in a circle and found that she was now four feet off the ground. Was she flying? She pointed towards the door and flew out. After so long in this wretched desert, she couldn't wait to be out. Khione flew North, towards the arctic seas, until she found the perfect place, a tiny little island made entirely out of ice. The island was beautiful, and her powers would, for sure, be working perfectly there. She created a very high tower for herself, with enough rooms for her to do whatever she wanted and a bedroom facing the dark blue ocean. She even decided to create a room entirely out of ruby, in honor of the ruby concealing powers. After a few days, Khione felt that something was missing. Alone her tower sat in this bare island. She needed something else on the island, but what? A wall to guard her castle? Other buildings? Jellyfish? No. But what about a maze, she thought, I could have a lot of fun building it, it would guard my tower, and it could take up the whole island, that way it won't seem empty! Plus it would stop me from ever doing something as stupid as taking a trip to the desert! So Khione built a maze out of ice so that her tower stood in the middle, overlooking the whole thing. After she finished building her maze, Khione was satisfied, and lived in her wonderful island for all eternity.

Under the Water by Chloe H.
It was an exciting day. The day the new S.S. Dream would set off for the Boston Harbor. It would expand all trade overseas and would one day make our lives the way they are today. With a crew of 15 men aboard they loaded up the final cargo and waved goodbye as they set off across the Atlantic. With open minds and big hearts everything was going well. But they didn’t know, that their journey might not be as successful as they thought. Unexpectedly, a storm came and the rocky waves sent all the crew frantically began to prepare for the worst. But it was too late to save the Dream. With one final ten-foot wave, it crashed the boat over as it wrecked and fell to the bottom of the ocean. The crew was lost. And those who weren’t dragged down with the boat soon ran out of air, until there was one man left. He knew he had to swim until he found mainland. He came to caves and treacherous sea monsters along the way. It was a mystery that none before him had solved. The mystery of the ocean. He saw a light in the distance and swam towards it. It was a pearl. Gleaming in the light, it was the sea stone of legend. Legend spoke of the pearl that would restore you, and show you the way home no matter how lost you were. With his final breath he outstretched his hand and placed his palm on the smooth, warm, comforting, surface. Everything became clear, as the pearl led him home. When he returned to mainland, he missed the wonders of the ocean and longed for the captivating mystery of the sea. So each day, after he finished work, he went to the sea shore and skipped a rock into the water to see how far it would go, and to remind him of those dear friends who were lost out at sea to this day. But though he felt the pain, the wonders intrigued him too much for him to stay away from the mysterious creatures and sunken treasure. So he still returned to the golden, sandy shores, to remind him of the day the water set him free.
